When is the doctor not enough?

There are any numbers of reasons your body can get stuck in a healing crisis, not all of which are resolved by the drugs or physical therapy that your doctor prescribes. Here are some of the reasons you should entertain this question and call Bowen Wellness.

1.      When injuries do not stay away.  You may feel that you will always have that bad ______ just waiting for you to turn wrong or sleep in a bad position.  Healing that isn’t integrated into the rest of the body is incomplete. We know that spot reducing doesn’t work, injuries are no different. Bowenwork resets those restrictions that you are not even aware of that are triggering the return of old problems.

2.      Chronic Autoimmune conditions like fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, and rheumatoid arthritis that are being managed by drugs and lifestyle changes benefit wonderfully from the whole body balancing that Bowenwork provides.

3.      Sleep problems.  One of the wonderful effects of most Bowen procedures is that as the body works at sorting itself out it tends to put people into good recuperative sleep patterns. Especially on the evening of the day of treatment.

4.      Accelerating doses of painkillers, anti inflammatories and/or muscle relaxers. If you feel that these drugs are just buying time while your body tries to heal, you may be right. Your body is telling you something is wrong and even if your doctor can’t figure it out there is a good chance that your brain knows exactly what needs to be done. Bowen asks the brain to go to work.

5.      You are told that surgery is the only recourse: for instance, a knee that you are told will eventually need replacing with the decision based upon your pain or level of incapacitation.  If the pain and inflammation are reduced or eliminated then so may be the need for surgery.  Bowenwork has prevented many surgeries and should be part of the process even if it is necessary. This includes carpal tunnel, hips, shoulders or even spinal fusions and discectomies. There is a Bowen therapist in New Zealand who works with a cardiologist because the work reduces edema, bruising and speeds healing when done prior to open heart surgery.

6     There is nothing more that he/she can do and you just have to live with it.” This is not a knock on doctors, rather a realistic understanding of their scope of practice.  They are not usually versed in other complimentary care options. There is a spiritual lesson about finding your guru that states: if your candidate says that he has all the answers to bring you to enlightenment, than he is not the one.

7.      The doctor is negative or complacent about your prognosis. The hope that your body can deal more effectively or completely with a problem gives you an ally within that you didn’t realize you had.  Allopathic medicine too often takes a perspective of us as passive rather than active participants in our healing.

8.      You can’t get in to see your doctor for a month or more.  Bowen Therapy usually has same day appointments available. I have never heard of a doctor who knows what Bowenwork is who has had any objection to their patient receiving a healing boost. Last year at the international conference at Yale University I saw 6 doctors who are Bowen therapists.

9.       The “let’s wait and see” approach. Means that you could suffer for a couple of months until your next appointment only to find out that you are being referred to a specialist in another month. Save the martyr routine for the right cause and activate your body to do something proactive.

10.  The drugs that are prescribed have worse side effects than the original problem. A Bowen therapist will always recommend that you follow doctors’ orders. Bowenwork does not interfere with any medications that you are taking. When pain relievers are on a “take as needed” schedule you will likely be pleasantly surprised by how the are needed less often.

11.  When you plateau in physical therapy. Bowenwork will clear the way for your next improvement. In England physiotherapists are leading the way as Bowen practitioners. You must leave a window of 4 days prior and 5 days after the Bowenwork so the body can focus on its task.

12   You were “slam dunked”. You were given an arms length diagnosis, prescribed drugs and out of his/her office in less than 3 minutes. The “that was easy” feeling is replaced by a nagging “maybe I should get a bar code on my forehead” feeling.  Bowen Therapy sessions start on time and last forty minutes to an hour.

13.  Sympathetic hyper-innervations. That’s a fancy way of saying that you are stuck in the flight or flight response and your nerves / hormones won’t settle down. Your choice: sedatives, ulcer meds and anti anxiety drugs and/or resetting your system so it will deal with stress better.

14.  Dehydration and shrinkage of fascia.  The packages that surround each muscle fiber and then each muscle can keep a grip of restriction long after a muscle has healed. It is a sort of hyper protection or allergic response to normal movement. Bowen’s primary influence is to tell the body that “the emergency is over” and healing may now begin. Drinking water after treatment is imperative because it will be used effectively where needed like the oil with the tin man.

15.  If you are undergoing chemotherapy or radiation.  Bowenwork can help you deal with the side effects of lack of energy and digestive issues much better.

16.  As a preventive for breast cancer that enhances lymphatic drainage. A powerful self administered procedure is taught that takes 30 seconds once a week.  It is also highly effective for lymphedema as the body learns to reroute lymph drainage, unlike vigorous massage which increases ingoing fluid.
